Australian lawyers attending UNCITRAL’s Working Group V on MSME insolvency – May 2021

UNCITRAL’s Working Group V – Insolvency is reconvening this week 4-7 May 2021, following its last meeting in December 2020. Australian lawyers are attending, remotely, on behalf of UNCCA.

While Australia does not usually attend WGV, Australian representatives from UNCCA on behalf of Lawasia are attending, remotely – Assistant Professor Casey Watters of Bond University and Mr Matyas Szuk, lawyer, of Ashurst, Sydney. Both also attended the Vienna session in December 2020 on behalf of UNCCA.

Professor Watters is a member of the WGV Expert Advisory Committees | UNCCA – Mr Szuk is UNCAA’s Communications Officer.

At the session, the Working Group is expected to continue its considerations of a revised draft text on a simplified insolvency regime for micro and small to medium enterprises, a matter of some focus given the impact of COVID-19 on many economies and the predominance of MSMEs in most economies, including that of Australia.  The Working Group will have before it a note by the Secretariat on a simplified insolvency regime (A/CN.9/WG.V/WP.172 and Add.1). The Working Group will also discuss the approach and next steps for finalising the text.  See Working Group V: Insolvency Law | United Nations Commission On International Trade Law
